Terms of Use

By using englishfocusdaily.com (“the site”) or the English Focus Daily mobile app on Google Play / the Apple App Store (“the app”), you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use them.

1. What we offer

English Focus Daily is a free educational service that publishes English-learning content — lessons, quizzes, vocabulary, flashcards, and reference material — through both a website and a mobile app. We may add, change, or remove features at any time.

Part 1: Website Terms

2. Use of the site

You may use the site for personal, non-commercial learning. You may:

  • Read, take quizzes, and share links to lessons.
  • Use short quotations (up to 50 words) with attribution and a link back.
  • Subscribe to the newsletter.

You may not:

  • Republish whole lessons on another site, blog, or app.
  • Use the content to train commercial AI/ML models without written permission.
  • Scrape the site at a rate that affects normal service.
  • Misrepresent the source of content (passing it off as your own).
  • Interfere with the site’s security or normal operation.
  • Submit content (via contact form or comments) that is illegal, infringing, abusive, or spam.

3. Intellectual property (site)

All content on the site — text, images, audio, code, and design — is owned by English Focus Daily or its contributors and protected by copyright. Lesson text is published under copyright; you may quote up to 50 words with attribution and a backlink for non-commercial purposes (educational citation, journalism, criticism).

4. User-submitted content

If you submit content to the site (comments, corrections, lesson requests via the contact form), you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, edit, and display that content on the site, with attribution if you provide your name.

5. No professional advice

Lessons are educational. They are not legal, medical, financial, immigration, or test-preparation advice. For specific situations, consult a qualified professional.

6. Third-party links

The site links to third-party websites and embeds (e.g. dictionary references, video). We are not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of those sites.

7. Affiliate links

Some links may be affiliate links — if you buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend resources we have actually used and found valuable. Affiliate links are disclosed inline.

Part 2: Mobile App Terms

This section applies to the English Focus Daily mobile app on Google Play and the Apple App Store.

8. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the app. If you are under the age of legal majority in your country, a parent or guardian must accept these terms on your behalf.

9. Your app account

The app creates an anonymous account on your device automatically — no signup required. You may optionally sign in with Google or Apple to back up your progress, sync across devices, and have your real name appear on the public leaderboard (otherwise an anonymous animal handle is used).

Anonymous accounts that have not been active for 30 consecutive days are automatically deleted by our authentication provider (Firebase). To preserve your progress long-term, sign in with Google or Apple.

You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure. We are not responsible for unauthorised use of your account.

10. Acceptable app use

You agree to use the app only for personal, non-commercial English-learning purposes. You will not:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or modify the app.
  • Use bots, scrapers, or automated tools to access the app.
  • Attempt to bypass security, rate limits, or anti-abuse systems.
  • Submit malicious code, abuse other users, or interfere with the service.
  • Generate fake taps, views, or clicks on ads (this is fraud under Google AdMob policy and we will report you).
  • Use the app in ways that violate any applicable law.

11. App content and licence

All in-app content — words, phrases, lessons, quizzes, flashcards, audio, images, and branding — is owned by English Focus Daily or its licensors and is protected by copyright. You receive a limited, personal, non-transferable licence to use the app and its content for your own learning.

You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from the app’s content without written permission.

12. Advertising in the app

The app is free and is supported by Google AdMob advertisements. By using the app you agree to view ads, which may be personalised based on your device’s advertising identifier. We show three kinds of ads:

  • Banner ads — small ads on certain content screens.
  • Interstitial ads — full-screen ads between activities, with a frequency cap.
  • Rewarded video ads — opt-in only; you tap a “Watch ad for <reward>” button to view one in exchange for an in-app perk such as bonus XP, an extra hint, a question retry, a streak save, or a 2× XP boost for your next quiz.

You can disable personalised ads at the operating-system level (Android: Google → Ads → “Opt out”; iOS: App Tracking Transparency prompt and Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising). You will still see non-personalised ads.

We are not responsible for the content of third-party ads. If an ad is misleading or inappropriate, please report it to us.

12a. Rewarded ad mechanics

Rewarded video ads are strictly optional. We will never deduct XP, lose your streak, or otherwise penalise you for declining to watch a rewarded ad. Closing a rewarded ad before it completes forfeits the reward but causes no other consequence.

Rewards from rewarded ads (bonus XP, streak saves, etc.) have no real-world monetary value and cannot be exchanged for cash or other goods. We may adjust reward amounts, cooldowns, or frequency at any time.

13. XP, streaks, leaderboard, and in-app rewards

XP, streaks, badges, achievements, and other progress indicators have no real-world monetary value and cannot be exchanged for cash or other goods. We may modify the XP system, reset progress for technical reasons, or remove features without notice.

The app includes a public leaderboard that displays the top 50 learners by total XP. Your display name (Google/Apple name if signed in; anonymous animal handle otherwise), level, total XP, and current streak will be visible to other users while you appear on the leaderboard. To remove yourself, delete your account (Settings → Delete My Account).

Attempting to inflate your XP, streak, or leaderboard position through cheating, automation, multiple-account abuse, or any form of fraud is grounds for immediate account removal without notice.

14. App availability and updates

We may release app updates over the air (via Expo) or through the app stores. You may need to install updates to continue using the app. We may also discontinue the app, in whole or in part, at any time with reasonable notice.

14a. Outbound links

The app contains links to our presence on Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Threads, WhatsApp Channels, and our website. Tapping any of these opens the corresponding third-party app or browser. We are not responsible for the content, terms, or privacy practices of those third parties; their own terms and privacy policies apply when you leave our app.

Part 3: Common to both

15. Disclaimer of warranties

The site and the app are provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee:

  • That the site or app will be available without interruption.
  • That content (definitions, examples, quiz answers) is free from errors. Language usage evolves; we revise lessons periodically.
  • That the service will meet any specific learning outcome.
  • That a rewarded ad will always be available when you choose to view one (ads may be temporarily unavailable due to network issues or low ad inventory).

You use the service at your own risk. It is not a substitute for accredited English instruction.

16. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, English Focus Daily and its contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site or app — including loss of data, loss of progress, or loss of revenue.

Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you have paid us in the past 12 months (typically zero, since the service is free) or (b) US $50.

17. Termination

You may stop using the service at any time. To delete your app account: Settings → Delete My Account.

We may suspend or block users who breach these Terms (e.g. scrapers, spammers, abusive commenters, app abusers, ad-click fraudsters) without notice.

18. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute will be handled in good faith via the contact email first; failing that, in the appropriate court of competent jurisdiction in India.

19. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. The “Last updated” date will change. Material changes will be announced on the homepage for 30 days and on the app’s next launch. Continued use means you accept the new Terms.
