- To send you the weekly newsletter if you signed up.
- To respond to your messages.
- To serve relevant advertising (via Google AdSense).
- To comply with legal obligations.
We never sell or rent your data to third parties.
4. Third-party services we use (website)
- Google Analytics 4 โ aggregate site analytics. (Google privacy policy; Opt-out)
- Google AdSense โ display advertising. Manage ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com
- Hostinger โ web hosting provider.
- Cloudflare โ CDN and security (when enabled).
- Gravatar โ comment avatars (only if you’ve registered a Gravatar).
5. Cookies and local storage (website)
- Essential cookies โ keep the site running. Cannot be disabled.
- Analytics โ Google Analytics 4 (13-month retention).
- Advertising โ Google AdSense cookies for ad personalisation and frequency capping.
- Local storage (not cookies) โ your browser’s localStorage may remember website preferences such as XP / saved words for the lite practice widget. This data never leaves your device.
You can clear cookies in your browser at any time.
Part 2: Mobile App Privacy
This section applies to the English Focus Daily mobile app on Google Play and the Apple App Store.
6. What the app collects
Automatic (everyone)
- Firebase anonymous user ID โ generated locally on first launch; identifies your device’s progress.
- App activity โ words you mark as learned, quizzes taken (including answers, scores, time spent per question), XP earned, streak data, achievements unlocked, favorites you star, flashcards reviewed, and rewarded ads watched.
- App preferences โ sound and haptic feedback settings, detected timezone.
- Crash logs and performance diagnostics โ to find and fix bugs. No personally identifiable information.
- Advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, AAID on Android) โ used by Google AdMob to show relevant ads. You can reset this anytime in device settings.
Optional (only if you sign in)
- Email address โ if you sign in with Google or Apple.
- Display name โ if you sign in with Google or Apple.
- Profile photo URL โ if you sign in with Google.
The app does NOT collect
- Your phone number, postal address, or other contact info.
- Your location โ the app never requests location permission.
- Camera, microphone, or contacts data.
- Health, financial, biometric, or data from other apps.
7. How we use app data
- Track your XP, streak, achievements, and learning progress.
- Sync your favorites and progress across devices (only if you sign in).
- Show ads via Google AdMob so the app can remain free.
- Display you on the public leaderboard (see Section 9 below).
- Fix crashes and improve performance.
8. Advertising in the app
The app shows three kinds of Google AdMob advertisements:
- Banner ads โ small ads anchored at the bottom of certain content screens (Home, Vocabulary, Practice, Progress, Profile, Leaderboard, Favorites, Flashcards, Learn). Not shown during active quiz play, sign-in screens, or settings.
- Interstitial ads โ full-screen ads shown between activities (typically after every third quiz or flashcard deck completion, with a minimum 3-minute gap). These are never shown during active gameplay.
- Rewarded video ads โ opt-in only. You explicitly tap a “Watch ad for <reward>” button to view one in exchange for an in-app perk (e.g. bonus XP, eliminate wrong quiz options, retry a question, save a streak, double XP boost). Closing the ad early forfeits the reward but does not penalise you.
Ads may be personalised based on your device’s advertising identifier. You can control ad personalisation system-wide:
- Android: Settings โ Google โ Ads โ “Opt out of Ads Personalisation”
- iOS: Settings โ Privacy & Security โ Apple Advertising โ “Personalized Ads” off, and respond to the App Tracking Transparency prompt on first launch.
If you opt out, you will still see ads, but they will be non-personalised.
9. Public leaderboard
The app includes a public leaderboard that shows the top 50 learners by total XP. Other users can see:
- Your display name โ your Google/Apple name if you signed in, or an auto-generated anonymous animal handle (e.g. “Wolf 957”, “Puma 764”) if you have not signed in.
- Your level, total XP, and current streak.
The leaderboard does not show your email, photo, sign-in method, quiz history, or any other personal data. If you do not want to appear by your real name, simply do not sign in โ your progress will continue under the anonymous animal handle. To remove yourself from the leaderboard entirely, delete your account (Section 11).
10. Who we share app data with
We share data only with these processors:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Crashlytics, Cloud Messaging) โ required to run the App. (Firebase privacy)
- Google AdMob โ your advertising ID and ad-interaction events are shared so AdMob can serve relevant ads and prevent fraud. (AdMob privacy)
- Expo (over-the-air app updates) โ only your installed app version and OS version. (Expo privacy)
The app also contains outbound links to our presence on Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Threads, WhatsApp Channels, and our website. When you tap one of these, you leave the app and are subject to that third party’s own privacy policy. We do not share any of your app data with these third parties; they only know you visited their service.
We never sell your app data.
11. Your rights and choices (mobile app)
- Delete your account โ In the app: Settings โ Delete My Account. This permanently removes your XP, streak, achievements, favorites, quiz history, and signs you out across all devices. The deletion is irreversible.
- Disable personalised ads โ Use your device’s system settings (see Section 8 above).
- Sign out โ Settings โ Sign Out (or Profile โ Sign Out). Signing out keeps your account but disables sync across devices.
- Reset advertising ID โ iOS: Settings โ Privacy & Security โ Tracking. Android: Settings โ Privacy โ Ads โ Reset advertising ID.
- Request a copy of your data โ email contact@englishfocusdaily.com; we respond within 30 days.
12. Anonymous account expiration
To keep our user database clean, anonymous accounts (those that have never signed in) that have not been active for 30 consecutive days are automatically deleted by Firebase along with all their associated data (XP, streak, quiz history, favorites). If you want your progress preserved long-term, sign in with Google or Apple โ signed-in accounts are never auto-deleted.
13. App tracking (iOS only)
On iOS, the app will ask permission to track your activity via the system “App Tracking Transparency” prompt. You may decline; the app still works fully, just with non-personalised ads.
14. App data security
We use Firebase security rules so that only you can read your own user data (with the limited exception of the public leaderboard data described in Section 9). All network connections use HTTPS / TLS encryption. We store data in Google Cloud’s US-region datacenters.
Part 3: Common to both

If you’re in the EU/UK, our legal basis for processing is:

You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your data (“right to be forgotten”).

- Object to processing or withdraw consent.
